All businesses located in or providing a service inside the Town of Oliver must be in possession of a valid business licence.
Licences may be applied for at the Town Hall (6150 Main Street) during regular office hours.
Business Licences run for the full calendar year and are pro-rated for businesses starting in the second half of the year.
The standard Business Licence fee is $100 per year, except for certain types of businesses, see the Business Licencing Bylaw, in our Bylaw list here.

Applying for a Bed and Breakfast Business Licence or Vacation Rental Licence? The Town asks you read the B & B / Vacation Rental Waiver, submit along with the Business Licence Application. Provide a drawing for parking, and proof of principal residence along with the completed form.

If your business is a Home Occupation, complete the waiver and submit along with the Business Licence Application.

In addition to a zoning check, your building will be inspected by the Building Official to determine if it is up to the standards of the British Columbia Building Code with regard to health, fire and life safety standards for your proposed class of business. If you are opening a food-related business, approval will also be required from the Provincial Health Inspector.
Once your business meets the above requirements your Business Licence will be issued and considered active once the fee is paid. Each year your Business will be invoiced automatically. Annual fees are due on or before the 31st day of March. Potential for penalties and possibility of a Bylaw Enforcement Ticket if unpaid. Please inform the Town if you are no longer operating your business, if we do not hear from you it will be assumed you are still operating.
Anyone wishing to pursue a non-medical cannabis business will need to ensure they adhere to the regulations within zoning bylaws as well as applicable provincial regulations. The retail sale of cannabis is prohibited in all zones, except for the TC and C2 Zone. Applications for Retail Cannabis must be submitted through the Liquor and Cannabis Regulation Branch (LCRB). LCRB regulates British Columbia’s liquor industries and private retail non-medical cannabis industries.

If a business operates in more than one community, it may be eligible for an Inter-Community Business Licence. This program allows businesses to purchase their municipal licence and only one additional licence, instead of having to purchase a licence with each municipality in which they operate. This licence is available for an additional $150; this fee is prorated on a monthly basis.
A business that operates a mobile operation may only purchase a 'Base' Business Licence from the municipality they are operating in. Eg. A food truck requires an Oliver Business Licence.
